Launch of the Two Rivers Institute CPD Programme for AY2021

Whilst the current climate is undoubtedly a challenging one for schools, teachers and society as a whole, we continue to develop what we are confident will be a highly engaging and professionally relevant CPD programme for next academic year and one which we hope schools will find offers excellent value for money. Despite the numerous challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, we will deliver our programme via traditional group-based training sessions when social distancing rules permit this to happen or in the interim via on-line webinar style events if group-based opportunities are not possible.

Our programme for next academic year is based around four key programme strands:

  • Early Career Framework
  • Continuing Professional Development
  • Conferences
  • School to School Support Services

Early Career Framework

The early and formative years in any professional career are highly important ones and no-where is this more true than in teaching. TRI is able to provide expert support for colleagues who are anywhere on their journey, from thinking about being a teacher right up to the threshold of stepping into a senior leadership position in schools. Our mission is to propel great teachers into the classroom, expertly develop them according to their career stage developmental needs and ensure that we retain the very best teachers in our classrooms year after year to deliver the educational outcomes the children in our care deserve.

We are able to offer both primary and secondary school experience in any of the Twynham Learning family of schools for colleagues who wish to spend time in schools before making an application for teacher training. Subsequently, we are able to offer a one year programme of Initial Teacher Training (Secondary Phase ) via BPD SCITT, leading to the award of QTS and a PGCE awarded by Winchester University. From September 2021 we will be able to offer Initial Teacher Training (Primary Phase) in partnership with Poole SCITT.

Once qualified, we are able to offer colleagues and their schools comprehensive Primary NQT, Secondary NQT, RQT and RQT2 programmes to provide expert advice, guidance and support through years 1, 2 and 3 of teachers’ careers post qualification. Full details of our RQT and RQT2 programmes will be published via this blog shortly. We also offer full Appropriate Body provision for NQT Induction.

CPD Programme

In addition to our early career programme, we offer a comprehensive programme of continuing professional development that is predominately aimed at teachers in years 4 to 8 of their career, whilst in no way wishing to imply that NQTs, RQTs or more experienced colleagues are unable to join these programmes, far from it!

We proudly host a termly pedagogy seminar on a variety of topics with these seminars being offered on a pro publico bono basis to the local educational community. Any colleague from any school is most welcome to attend and join the debate and discussion.

In January 2021, we will be launching our new middle leadership programme based on the book Leadership Matters, coupled with Andy Buck also delivering two days of the highest quality CPD for us in October 2020 and March 2021 in terms of the Coaching for Impact programme. Finally, we will continue to facilitate access to Leadership and Management programmes funded via the Apprenticeship Levy provided your school meets the eligibility criteria. Conference Programme

Two of the undoubted highlights of the past year were our January 2020 Women in Leadership conference facilitated by Fiona Adams (Headteacher of Hordle School) and our March 2020 Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction conference facilitated by Tom Sherrington.

In this continued spirit, we already have five high quality speakers scheduled for next academic year with full details published nearer the time.

School to School Support Services

Finally, we are able to offer a range of school to school support services above and beyond programmes of continuing professional development. As an Accredited Teaching School we are able to be the Appropriate Body for NQT Induction and can offer a range of services from ‘accreditation only’ through to a full programme of professional themes seminars, lesson observations, mentoring and coaching. We are also able to offer a full programme of School to School Support Services across the domain of school leadership matters utilising our SLEs or colleagues from the Twynham Learning Executive Team as appropriate. Details of our School Business Management Essentials programme will be offered in due course.
