RQT Programme

In AY2021, TRI will be offering programmes for both RQT and RQT2 colleagues. The RQT programme will be centred around both personalised and group coaching of RQTs as they work on personalised projects to develop their classroom pedagogy, whilst the RQT2 programmes will be centred around even more personalised one to one support.

Early Careers Framework

The DfE’s Early Career Framework and the Recruitment and Retention Strategy is very clear on the need to support teachers in years 2 and 3 of their careers post qualification.

“Not enough teachers receive the high quality support and development they need at the outset of their career, when the learning curve is steepest.”

[DfE: Teacher Recruitment and Retention Strategy, page 19]

With many RQTs having enjoyed high quality professional studies programmes during the course of their training year and NQT year, we are seeking to provide our RQTs with a programme more personalised to their specific career stage developmental needs.

The thinking behind the programme is strongly influenced by Daniel Pink’s book ‘Drive’. We are trying to ensure that as we guide the development of our RQTs, they have a degree of autonomy in choosing which area of their professional practice they choose to develop; they achieve a higher level of mastery in their chosen area and also that there is a clear sense of purpose in improving the quality of their teaching and consequently the quality of their students learning.

The work of Andy Buck and specifically his Basic Coaching Method has also strongly influenced the programme with the method outlined in the graphic below:
